María Irene Moyna holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Florida and has been a faculty member at Texas A&M University since 2006, achieving tenure in 2010. Previously, she worked at San Diego State University. She served as Associate Editor for the 5th and 6th editions of the Chicago Spanish Dictionary (University of Chicago, 2002, 2012) and co-edits the book series 'Topics in Address Research' (John Benjamins). Currently, she is completing a large-scale project focusing on Uruguayan Spanish, which involves data collection for a study of Spanish in Houston. Dr. Moyna teaches courses in Hispanic linguistics, global studies, and Spanish language development, and has been involved in grant projects, including the NEH Connections Grant for developing Spanish curricula related to agriculture.
