Dr. Maria Rieders

Biography

Maria Rieders is an Adjunct Professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, specializing in operations, information, and decision sciences. She earned her M.Sc. in applied mathematics from the University of Ulm, Germany, in 1984, and completed her Ph.D. in business administration at the University of Rochester in 1990. Her extensive teaching experience includes undergraduate and graduate courses, particularly in stochastic models, queueing theory, and dynamic programming. Rieders has been recognized for her outstanding teaching at Northwestern University, where she previously held a faculty position in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences. Her research interests primarily focus on stochastic models and computational methods for large-scale systems, with applications in performance analysis of communication systems and production facilities. Rieders has collaborated on research funded by the National Science Foundation and Ameritech Corporation and has experience in industrial consulting. Additionally, she has held positions at the Allensbach Institute for Public Opinion Research and as a visiting researcher at the Institute of Operations Research at the University of Bonn, Germany.
