Maria Rubins was born in Saint Petersburg (formerly Leningrad). She studied at St. Petersburg State University in Russia, Brown University in the United States, and Charles University in Prague, earning her doctoral degree. In addition to her academic pursuits, she works as a literary translator, translating from English, French, Hebrew, and Russian, and has edited and translated novels and memoirs. Rubins was nominated for UCL Student Choice awards for 'Outstanding Teaching' and 'Outstanding Support Teaching.'
