Dr. Maria Sobolewska

Biography

Maria Sobolewska is a Professor of Political Science at the University of Manchester, specializing in the political integration and representation of ethnic minorities in Britain and comparative contexts. Her work encompasses public perceptions of ethnicity and immigrant integration. Sobolewska authored the book "Brexitland," which received the 2022 WJM Mackenzie Prize awarded by the Political Science Association. She has been the Principal Investigator on various grants focusing on ethnic minority voters, including the Ethnic Minority British Election Study. Prominent projects include investigating identity politics and social cleavages in the context of the Brexit referendum. Sobolewska received the 2021 Joni Lovenduski Prize for outstanding achievements as a mid-career scholar in political science. She is actively involved in consultations with media and policymakers on issues surrounding identity and ethnic politics in Britain. Her research interests cover public opinion, elections, political representation, and the roles of ethnic, religious, and racial minorities, primarily using quantitative and qualitative data analysis methods.
