Dr. Maria Stamatopoulou

Biography

Professor Maria Stamatopoulou is a distinguished scholar in the field of Classical Archaeology, affiliated with the Faculty of Classics at the University of Oxford and a Fellow Tutor at Lincoln College. Her academic journey began with a BA in History and Archaeology from the National Capodistrian University of Athens, followed by a Master of Studies in Archaeology and a DPhil in Classical Archaeology from the University of Oxford. Maria's research is primarily focused on Greek Archaeology of the first millennium BC, with specific interests in regions such as Thessaly and Macedonia. She delves into various aspects of funerary archaeology, Greek sanctuaries, and ancient art forms, including terracottas, painting, and jewellery. Additionally, she studies iconography and archival materials pertaining to Archaic and Late Hellenistic history. Maria is an active participant in the academic community, contributing her expertise to various publications and fostering an understanding of ancient Greek culture through her teaching and research.
