Biography

Maria Stiholt Otto is a Ph.D. fellow at the Danish School of Education, Aarhus University, with extensive experience in pediatric family nursing, particularly in pediatric palliative care. Her interdisciplinary research draws on pragmatism, care ethics, feminist theory, and interactionist perspectives to explore themes of hope, temporality, and the lived experiences of families caring for children and young adults with life-limiting or life-threatening illnesses. Otto's central work engages families through Collective Memory Work to create generative spaces fostering belonging, relationality, and agency, as practices that help build caring communities. She cooperates with the Pediatric Palliative Care (PPC) Lab in Copenhagen to advance interdisciplinary research in this critical area. Otto's commitment to improving pediatric palliative care is reflected in her active participation in projects such as HOPE4Kids and her Ph.D. project titled '(Collective) Matter Hope'.
