Biography

Maria Suarez Diez is a Professor and Chairholder at the Laboratory of Systems Synthetic Biology at Wageningen University & Research. She earned her PhD in Physics from the University of Oviedo in Spain, where her thesis focused on the cosmological implications of superstring theory. After completing her doctorate, she held post-doctoral research positions at institutions such as École Polytechnique in France, Genopole in France, and Helmholtz-Zentrum in Germany. In October 2022, Maria joined Wageningen University & Research, where she directs the Laboratory of Systems Synthetic Biology. Her research primarily centers around building mathematical models to understand the dynamics of cellular networks and their interactions with the environment. Maria aims to foster a collaborative environment in her laboratory to help achieve these research goals while providing educational opportunities for students. Additionally, she is involved in the Dutch Biotechnology Association (NBV), where she serves on the board and is currently the vice chair.
