Biography

Maria Tenje is a Professor at Uppsala University in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, specializing in Biomedical Engineering. She has a notable academic career that began with her appointment as Associate Senior Lecturer in September 2014, followed by a promotion to Senior Lecturer in early 2016 and to full Professor in 2019. Tenje leads the research group EMBLA (Enabling Microtechnologies for Biomedical Life Science Applications), focusing on advanced micro and nanofabrication methods for creating miniaturized systems for biomedical applications, including organ-on-chip and droplet microfluidic systems. She co-heads the new Division of Biomedical Engineering at Uppsala University and serves as the Director of the Uppsala MedTech Science Innovation Centre (MTSI) starting January 2024. Tenje completed her PhD in Microtechnology at the Technical University of Denmark in 2007 and has a profound interest in micro-nanofabrication and acoustofluidics. She has previously been appointed Docent at Uppsala University in 2015 and held a sabbatical position at UC Santa Barbara's Department of Bioengineering during the 2022/2023 academic year.
