Biography

Mariam Alessa is a versatile diabetes specialist podiatrist, committed to delivering essential care to high-risk diabetic foot patients in Kuwait's Ministry of Health. Concurrently, she is pursuing a PhD while serving as a part-time lecturer at the University of Western Australia. Her qualifications include membership in the Royal College of Podiatry in the UK and a research scholar role at the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. Mariam is dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals affected by diabetic foot disease, driven by a passion for advancing podiatric medicine and surgery. Her research focuses on the complexities of Diabetic Foot Disease in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, aiming to address critical knowledge gaps and yield transformative insights for diabetic patient care. Mariam is leading the development of a comprehensive dataset tailored for local and regional analysis to improve DFD management strategies in the GCC region. She evaluates the impact of multidisciplinary teams on outcomes like lower limb amputation and advocates for collaborative care models to enhance diabetic foot disease management and contribute to optimal patient well-being.
