Marian Knight is a Professor of Maternal and Child Population Health at the National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit (NPEU) at the University of Oxford. Her work focuses on using national observational studies to address clinical questions related to rare severe complications in pregnancy and early life. She leads the MBRRACE-UK national confidential enquiries into maternal morbidity and mortality. Professor Knight is also the Academic Champion for Policy Public Engagement within the Medical Sciences Division, contributing to the Oxford Policy Engagement Network Steering Group. In February 2012, she was awarded NIHR Research Professorships to advance her work on maternal morbidity and care for infants requiring early surgery. Initially trained in obstetrics and neonatology, she completed her DPhil investigating the pathogenesis of pre-eclampsia, which sparked her interest in epidemiology and population health. Consequently, she undertook specialty training in public health, achieving fellowship status with the Faculty of Public Health in 2006. She also serves as an Honorary Consultant in Public Health for Public Health England.
