Professor Dr. Marian Petersen

Biography

Marian Petersen is an Associate Professor at the University of Southern Denmark, specializing in the field of sleep medicine and its intersection with surgical nursing. With a background in clinical sexology and extensive experience in interdisciplinary cooperation, her research focuses on the acute patient's relationship with sleep, rest, and well-being. Her work emphasizes the critical role of sleep in recovering patients and the potential impacts of hospital stays on sleep patterns, especially concerning insomnia. Petersen aims to develop supportive nursing routines that prioritize patient's rest and sleep while providing guidance to future patients based on their experiences pre-and post-surgery. She completed her Doctorate at Lund University with a dissertation on the impacts of nocturnal CPAP treatment on sexual relationships among patients with obstructive sleep apnea. Her academic contributions include numerous publications in high-impact journals and active participation in various national and international conferences relating to sleep disorders and patient treatment.
