Biography

Marian Shanahan is an experienced health economist and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the National Drug & Alcohol Research Centre at the University of New South Wales. Dr. Shanahan completed her PhD project focused on evaluating the costs and benefits of cannabis policies, which included substantial cost-benefit analyses, a contingent valuation study, and discrete choice experiments. Dr. Shanahan is currently a member of the Drug Policy Modelling Program (DPMP) team, where her research interests include assessing the costs and benefits of policies related to heroin and cannabis, using discrete choice experiments to explore societal preferences for drug policies, and evaluating the costs and outcomes of police diversion programs for cannabis.
