Biography

Mariana Lopes is a post-doctoral research associate at the Centre for Research on Eating and Weight Disorders (CREW) within the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience at King's College London. She specializes as a dietitian in eating disorders and has a strong interest in evidence-based approaches and novel interventions to improve eating behaviors in individuals with eating disorders, including those who are overweight or obese. Her research focuses on brain stimulation techniques, approach bias modification, and mindfulness. Mariana completed her PhD at the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil in 2021, where she examined bone and body composition assessment in women with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. Currently, her research investigates the clinical complications associated with eating disorders, particularly comparing those with early-stage anorexia nervosa to individuals with a longer duration of illness. Additionally, she is conducting a clinical trial to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of combining brain stimulation with approach bias modification training to reduce food cravings in people taking antipsychotic medication.
