Biography

Mariana Schmajuk received her medical education at Boston University School of Medicine in 2012 and completed the General Adult Psychiatry Residency program at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2016, where she served as Chief Resident. Following this, she finished a Consult-Liaison Fellowship at New York-Presbyterian Hospital Columbia University Medical Center in 2017. Dr. Schmajuk joined the Stanford University Consult-Liaison Psychiatry team in 2017. She is actively involved in emergency medicine consultations, collaborating with nurse practitioners and social workers, focusing on treating patients with terminal neurological disorders and oncological processes. As the director of the Psychosomatic Continuity clinic, she trains residents and fellows to assess and treat patients with psychiatric sequelae in the context of complex medical illnesses, with a particular interest in psychotherapeutic interventions. Dr. Schmajuk enjoys teaching psychiatry interviewing skills to medical students and employs techniques of applied improvisation to enhance communication skills among psychiatry residents. Additionally, she is an active member of the bioethics committee.
