Biography

Marianne Liebi is a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), heading the Laboratory for X-ray characterization of materials within the Department of Materials. She is an expert in advanced X-ray imaging techniques, particularly small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), with applications in the characterization of biomimetic hierarchical nanocomposites and industrial materials. Marianne completed her PhD at ETH Zurich in 2013, focusing on soft-matter using small-angle neutron scattering. Her postdoctoral work at the Swiss Light Source (2013-2016) involved SAXS tensor tomography method development. After a brief period at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, she returned to Switzerland as a Scientific Group Leader at Empa, before joining EPFL in 2021. Marianne has been recognized with the Innovation Prize for Synchrotron Radiation in 2021 and has contributed significantly to teaching, supervising PhD students, and developing courses in material science and large-scale facilities.
