Biography

Trained medical doctor and internist-nephrologist with a strong pre-clinical background, Marianne Verhaar consistently combines clinical practice with extensive basic, translational, and clinical research. She earned her PhD cum laude in Vascular Biology and works as a consultant nephrologist. Additionally, she established a research laboratory for Regenerative Nephrology within the Vascular Biology department of Nephrology and Hypertension at UMC Utrecht. In 2009, she was appointed professor of Experimental Nephrology, and in 2014, she assumed the position of head of the department of Nephrology and Hypertension at UMC Utrecht. As a co-founder and current chair of the Regenerative Medicine & Stem Cells strategic programme, she has implemented six prominent 'spearhead' programs at UMC Utrecht. Furthermore, she played a key role in initiating the successful Strategic Alliance in Regenerative Medicine between UMC Utrecht, Eindhoven University of Technology, and Utrecht University.
