Biography

Mariano Scapin is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting at the University of Bristol. His current research agenda focuses on corporate governance regulations, the composition of board directors, executive compensation, and financial reporting. He is particularly interested in the relationship between directors' personal characteristics and pay disparities among top management teams, and how these aspects influence corporate outcomes. His recent projects explore the relationship between accounting quality and stock mispricing, as well as debt contracting design affected by fair value accounting. Scapin holds a PhD in Business Economics from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and an MSc in Economics from Universidad de San Andrés. In 2014, he visited the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, sponsored by Professor Catherine Shakespeare. He is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in the UK. Prior to his academic career, he worked as an analyst in agribusiness, focusing on the effects of taxation and non-tariff barriers on commodity prices.
