Dr. Marica Tacconi

Biography

Marica S. Tacconi is a Distinguished Professor of musicology and art history and serves as the Associate Director for Faculty Development at the School of Music, Penn State University. She has been a faculty member since 1998, teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in music history. Originally from central Italy, Tacconi is a graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy and holds a B.A. from Williams College and a Ph.D. in musicology from Yale University. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on the intersection of music, art, and culture in late medieval and early modern Italy. Tacconi has presented her work at numerous conferences both in the United States and internationally, including Italy, Belgium, Denmark, and England, and has published extensively in journals and academic collections. Her notable publications include 'Libri del Duomo di Firenze' and 'Cathedral Civic Ritual in Late Medieval and Renaissance Florence'. Currently, she is investigating the music of 17th- and 18th-century Venice, which has gained attention for its discovery of previously overlooked music manuscripts. Throughout her career, Tacconi has received substantial support from various foundations and has been a post-doctoral research fellow at Villa Tatti, Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies.
