Biography

I am interested in how people depend on environmental wellbeing in the context of resource extraction and climate change, combining qualitative and quantitative methods to gain a picture of local livelihoods and decision-making. I gained my PhD in Anthropology from University College London, examining the importance of aquatic resources for food and income in floodplain communities in southern Tanzania, as well as the challenges involved in community-based management of shared resources. Currently, I am documenting traditional fishing methods in an area threatened by the recent completion of a megadam on the Rufiji River, which challenges the notion that hydropower is a sustainable solution to climate change. I am a Co-Principal Investigator on a UCL Climate Crisis Small Grants project, investigating the impacts of climate change on urban children's opportunities for outdoor play in partnership with Bright Start Islington, aiming to understand how increasingly unpredictable climate affects the wellbeing of London's youngest residents. My degrees are in human geography (MSc) and biology (BSc), which allow me to take an interdisciplinary perspective on linked social and environmental issues.
