Biography

Marie-Eve Bouchard is an Assistant Professor in the Department of French, Hispanic and Italian Studies at the University of British Columbia. She holds a B.A. in International Studies and Modern Languages and a Master's in Linguistics from Laval University, followed by a PhD from the Department of Linguistics at New York University. Her doctoral research focused on the emerging varieties of Portuguese spoken in São Tomé and Príncipe. Prior to her position at UBC, she held a postdoctoral fellowship at Stockholm University in the Department of Romance Studies and Classics. Bouchard's research encompasses anthropologically oriented sociolinguistics, emphasizing language ideologies, language contact, variation and change, national identity, migration, diaspora, race, and ethnicity.
