Marie-Helene Bertino is a writer and lecturer who currently serves as the Ritvo-Slifka Writer-in-Residence at Yale University. An accomplished author, her works include the short story collection 'Safe Houses' and novels such as 'Parakeet', '2 A.M. Cat’s Pajamas', and 'Beautyland'. Bertino's 'Beautyland' has received recognition as a notable book of 2024, making appearances in prestigious magazines like Goodreads, Time, and Esquire. Her distinguished accolades include the Pushcart Prize, Iowa Short Fiction Award, and the Mississippi Review Prize, along with participation in the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Fellowship in Cork, Ireland. In addition to her writing, she has taught creative writing in various MFA programs including New York University and the New School, as well as the Institute of American Indian Arts. In June 2021, she hosted an online masterclass titled 'Disrupting Realism', aimed at providing graduate-level resources to a wide audience, which attracted 1,300 attendees. Bertino’s forthcoming work includes 'Exit Zero', slated for publication by FSG in 2025.
