Dr. Marie Hélène Parizeau

Biography

Marie-Hélène Parizeau is a full professor at the Faculty of Philosophy at Laval University, where she has been engaged since 1999. She held a Doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Paris XII, defending her thesis in 1988. With expertise in bioethics and environmental ethics, Parizeau has contributed significantly to global discourses on ethics in science and technology. Notably, she served as President of the World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology at UNESCO from September 2015 to December 2019. Parizeau has led various ethical reviews on climate change, water ethics, robotics, and artificial intelligence. Her academic efforts extend to teaching undergraduate courses on environmental ethics and biomedical ethics, as well as supervising graduate theses in related fields. Parizeau's extensive publication record includes edited volumes on bioethics and the ethical implications of nanotechnologies and biotechnology. She is actively engaged in research concerning ethical issues surrounding artificial intelligence and has participated in various inter-university research groups at Laval University. Her distinguished career includes various academic awards and positions of leadership within academic unions.
