Marie-Paule de Valdivia worked in marketing for decades while experiencing mental health challenges within her family. After learning about borderline personality disorder, she joined the board of the National Education Alliance for Borderline Personality Disorder, contributing to the growth of the Family Connections program that supports several hundred families yearly across 20 countries. An avid advocate for family support, she taught the Family Connections peer-led class while embarking on her MSW program. Marie-Paule rejoined Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital, focusing on adult and adolescent therapy, and co-directing DBT programs. Committed to reducing stigma, she often speaks on the importance of family involvement in DBT treatment both nationally and internationally. She co-directed the Annual Yale-NEA.BPD conference in 2017 and founded Families Line, a private practice dedicated to working with patients and coaching their family members in DBT-based family skills.
