Biography

Marie Louise Blankesteijn is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where she also serves as Program Director for the Bachelor's and Master's programs in Science, Business & Innovation (SBI). Her expertise lies in the intersection of education, research, and innovation, particularly focusing on sustainable water management and entrepreneurship. Marie has extensive experience collaborating with leading organizations such as CERN and EMBL, and she actively integrates academic research with practical applications in policy advising and innovation strategies. Prior to her current role, she completed her PhD at the University of Amsterdam, where she researched knowledge transitions in water management. With a strong background in both academia and industry, she bridges the gap between theoretical insights and governmental decision-making, aiming to foster sustainable development through education and interdisciplinary collaboration. Marie has been recognized for her contributions to science policy and is involved in various activities related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. She holds several teaching qualifications and has received multiple grants for her work in entrepreneurship education.
