Biography

Marie Charbonneau joined the University of Calgary as an assistant professor in September 2021. Her research focuses on humanoid and collaborative robots, compliant whole-body control, and physical contact-based human-robot collaboration. Prior to her current position, she was a post-doctoral fellow in the RoboHub and the Human-Centred Robotics and Machine Intelligence Lab at the University of Waterloo, where her research centered on reliable whole-body control for humanoid robots that closely interact physically with people. She has also worked as an early-stage researcher at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia in Genoa from 2015 to 2019, completing her PhD in whole-body control of humanoid robots. Marie obtained her Master's in Robotics Engineering through the Erasmus Mundus EMARO program in 2014 and holds a BASc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sherbrooke, which led her to a career in mechanical design and simulation before transitioning to robotics.
