Biography

Marie Herget Christensen is a linguist and functional linguist specializing in syntax and functional grammar, particularly in the context of language variation and change. Her research investigates the intersection of grammar and language use, focusing on atypical interactions and threatening language use. She is part of the Language Psychology team at the University of Copenhagen, where she teaches and conducts research. Currently, her research applies functional grammar to explore how individuals with schizophrenia describe their auditory hallucinations and other psychotic symptoms. She previously completed a postdoctoral project on the language of threats and has a strong background in psycholinguistic testing and grammatical variation. Christensen has developed and taught various courses on language psychology and grammar, mentoring students in these fields. Her work includes corpus linguistic studies and stylistic analyses of syntactic constructions, contributing to a deeper understanding of functional grammar in natural language use. She holds a PhD focused on Danish grammar and has been involved in multiple academic and curricular developments within her department.
