Professor Dr. Marie Cronqvist

Biography

Marie Cronqvist is a Professor of Modern History at Linköping University, focusing on cultural media and historical perspectives. Her research delves into Swedish and European postwar history, exploring Cold War entanglements, information propaganda, civil defense, and societal preparedness. She studies how mediated narratives about fear and safety influence modern societies and the role of media in shaping cultural communities. Cronqvist has led various research projects investigating Swedish and European civil defense cultures and the relationship between East and West during the Cold War. She has held prior positions as the head of the Media History subject at Lund University's Department of Communication and Media, and she has also been a visiting scholar at several esteemed institutions. Cronqvist is a member of notable academic societies, including the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences. She is actively involved in supervising PhD students and mentoring postdoctoral researchers in her division, contributing significantly to the field of historical studies and media history.
