Biography

Marie Louise (Marieke) De Bruin is a professor of Drug Regulatory Science at Utrecht University and serves as the scientific director of the Utrecht Centre for Pharmaceutical Policy and Regulation. She is a trained pharmacist from Utrecht University and earned her degree in epidemiology from Erasmus University Rotterdam. De Bruin has extensive experience in both national and international regulatory authorities, having worked as a pharmacovigilance expert for the Dutch Medicines Evaluation Board from 2008 to 2016. In addition, she was appointed as an independent Scientific Expert for the Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee (PRAC) at the European Medicines Agency from 2012 to 2018. She brings a strong background in epidemiology, being a member of the steering group of the European Network of Centers for Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacovigilance (ENCePP) from 2017 to 2019. De Bruin applies quantitative methods in epidemiology to address regulatory science research questions, emphasizing her hands-on experience with regulatory systems. Her motivation for engaging in Drug Regulatory Science is rooted in her training as a health care professional and driven by the desire to improve drug regulatory systems to benefit public health.
