Biography

Marie Diener-West is a Professor at Johns Hopkins University's Bloomberg School of Public Health, where she chairs the Master of Public Health Program. With a PhD from the same institution, her focus has been on the design, conduct, and analysis of clinical trials, particularly multicenter clinical trials. Over her 20-year career, she served as a Study Statistician and Deputy Director at the Coordinating Center for the Collaborative Ocular Melanoma Study (COMS), which aimed at investigating the effectiveness of radiation treatments for prolonging patient survival in cases of choroidal melanoma. Her research interests also extend to treatment trials for cystic fibrosis and the longitudinal assessment of sleep disorders' relationship with heart disease in the Sleep Heart Health Study. Additionally, she is committed to statistical education for health professionals and has been teaching courses in statistical methods and data analysis since 1990, developing and co-instructing courses like Fundamentals of Epidemiology. Throughout her career, she has received numerous awards recognizing her contributions to teaching and research in biostatistics and public health.
