Dr. Marie Flinkfeldt

Biography

Marie Flinkfeldt is an Associate Professor and senior lecturer in the Department of Social Work at Uppsala University. Her research focuses on client-professional interaction within welfare settings, with particular interests in categorization, equality, digitalization, and pressing social issues. Flinkfeldt published significant work examining institutional interactions critical to understanding welfare state dynamics, especially how professionals engage with clients across various contexts such as social work, healthcare, and public administration. Her doctoral thesis, titled "Legitimacy Work: Managing Sick Leave Legitimacy Interaction," utilized methods from discursive psychology and conversation analysis to dissect interactions occurring in social insurance agency settings. A postdoctoral researcher at Uppsala University and Umeå University, she has also been a visiting scholar at Loughborough University and UC Santa Barbara. Currently, Flinkfeldt is actively leading seminars and participating in committees that promote research in conversation analysis and welfare studies, contributing to projects funded by the Swedish Social Insurance Agency.
