Biography

Marie Jarrell is an American researcher specializing in psychology, computer science, digital art and animation, and video game design, with a focus on Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) interactions. As a fellow in the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions fellowship program, she has dedicated her post-doctoral research to studying Human-Computer Interactions, particularly how embodiment in AR avatars influences individuals' perceptions and behaviors. Currently, she lectures at the Winchester School of Art, focusing on Games and Playable Narratives. Holding a PhD in Human-Centered Computing from the School of Computing at Clemson University, she also earned Master's degrees in Digital Production Arts and Computer Science from Clemson, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design from Hampton University, where she minored in Computer Science and received a Certificate in Cinema Studies. Her research interests encompass video games, VR/AR simulations, embodiment, representation, and player-based identification. By combining her artistic and scientific skills, Dr. Jarrell investigates the impact of technologies on human learning, perceptions, biases, and behaviors.
