Dr. Marie Kotzur

Biography

Marie Kotzur is a behavioural scientist with a background in health psychology, focusing on reducing health inequalities related to oral health and cancer outcomes. She is a founding member of the Cancer Behaviour Research Group, where her work aims to evaluate family support interventions such as early childhood tooth brushing initiatives, notably Childsmile, Scotland's national child oral health improvement programme. Since joining the University of Glasgow in 2015, she has worked on projects to understand barriers to cancer screening participation among underprivileged groups, including those from low socioeconomic backgrounds, ethnic minorities, and people with learning disabilities. Her expertise encompasses mixed-method participatory research, public and patient involvement, and engagement research. She holds a PhD in Applied Psychology from University College Cork and contributes to the teaching and supervision of courses in dental surgery and public health at the university.
