Biography

Marie Larsson is a Professor and Head of the Division of Molecular Medicine and Virology at Linköping University. Her research primarily focuses on immunovirology, specifically HIV, investigating the immunomodulatory effects of the virus on dendritic cells and T cell responses. With over 30 million people having died from HIV-1 infection globally, her work addresses significant public health concerns, particularly in developing countries where the epidemic is most severe. Larsson's ongoing projects include exploring new adjuvants for vaccine constellations against cancer and viruses, and examining the induction and sustainment of cancer-associated inflammation that negatively impacts host immune defense. She aims to elucidate the mechanisms underlying the interaction between HIV and dendritic cells, and how these affect T cell priming and function, as well as identifying potential microbiocides that could block initial HIV infection. Her research aspires to provide insights that could lead to the development of high-efficacy vaccines or therapies against HIV.
