Biography

Marie is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Ottawa, where she also serves as the Director of Graduate Studies in Communication. She teaches courses in Journalism and Communication and supervises master's and PhD students. Marie has over a decade of experience as a foreign correspondent for both Francophone and Anglophone news media outlets. She completed her Ph.D. in International Journalism and her Master's in Journalism at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, in 2014 and 2009, respectively. Before joining the University of Ottawa, Maria taught journalism and communication at James Cook University in Australia from 2013 to 2021. Her doctoral research explored socio-cultural and political issues, traditional protocols, cultural values, and contemporary journalism practices in the South Pacific region, while her current research interests include globalization, culture, decolonization, and the implications of journalistic practices in both Western and non-Western contexts.
