Biography

Marie Petersmann is an Assistant Professor at LSE Law School, where she leads the Sustainability Law Clinic and is part of the Global School of Sustainability (GSoS). Her research focuses on international law, ecology, and critical theory, particularly the legal implications of climate justice in the Anthropocene. Marie holds a PhD from the European University Institute in Florence and an LLM from the Graduate Institute in Geneva. She is the author of 'Environmental Protection Human Rights Collide: Politics Conflict Management Regional Courts' (Cambridge University Press, 2022) and has contributed to various academic journals and publications. As a member of the Editorial Board for the Review of European, Comparative & International Environmental Law (RECIEL), she engages in discussions about the intersections of environmental law, human rights, and ecological justice. Marie has received several awards for her research, including the 'Veni' grant from the Dutch Research Council (NWO) for her project 'Anthropocene Legalities: Reconfiguring Legal Relations with More-than-human Worlds'. Her work draws on legal theory, ecological philosophy, feminist posthumanism, and critical Black studies, aiming to explore the limitations of rights-based approaches in environmental litigations.
