Dr. Marie Somogyi

Biography

Marie B. Somogyi, M.D. is an affiliate faculty member in the Department of Ophthalmology at Dell Medical School. Originally from Manchester, England, she moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan at a young age. Somogyi attended the University of Notre Dame on a rowing scholarship and graduated with a major in pre-professional studies and psychology. She earned her medical degree from the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University Chicago, graduating with honors in research. During her time there, she received several accolades including the Stamm Scholarship for dedication to service in the Department of Ophthalmology and competitive research grants from the Richard A. Perritt Foundation and the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness. After completing her internship at Presence Resurrection Hospital in Chicago, she finished her residency at Loyola University Medical Center, where she was elected chief resident. Somogyi specializes in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery, having completed a fellowship accredited by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at TOC Eye & Face. She also finished an American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery-accredited fellowship focusing on facial cosmetic surgery. Somogyi has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in the field and has presented her research at respected national meetings. Committed to providing exceptional care, she has worked with the Face Foundation in Vietnam, performing surgeries for congenital facial defects. In her spare time, she enjoys running, playing sports, traveling, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.
