Biography

Mariel Smith Cannady, Psy.D., specializes in treating children with anxiety, neurodevelopmental disorders, and challenging behaviors. She earned her Doctor of Psychology degree in Clinical and School Psychology and an Educational Specialist degree in School Psychology from James Madison University. Cannady completed her internship in child clinical/pediatric psychology at the Texas Child Study Center. She has interdisciplinary training in neurodevelopmental disorders through the LEND program at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Center of Excellence in Developmental Disabilities and graduated from the International OCD Foundation’s Intensive Pediatric Behavior Therapy Training Institute, where she received specialized training in behavior therapy, applied behavior analysis, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and parent-child interaction therapy. Her research interests include family engagement in pediatric treatment, parent-child interactions, and children with neurodevelopmental disabilities. She has published research on identifying the determinants of successful transitions to adult care for young people with special health care needs.
