Biography

Marietta Charakida studied medicine at the Kapodistriako University in Athens, Greece, and completed her training in Pediatric Cardiology at Great Ormond Street Hospital and Evelina Children’s Hospital. She was appointed Senior Clinical Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Fetal Pediatric Cardiology at Evelina Children’s Hospital, King's College Hospital in 2015. Her research focuses on understanding the risk factors, such as obesity, hyperlipidemia, and inflammation, that contribute to the initiation and progression of arterial diseases in young populations. Currently, her work aims to unravel the maternal, fetal, and postnatal factors involved in the development of cardiovascular disease and to develop lifestyle modification strategies to improve quality of life for patients with congenital heart disease. She has published numerous peer-reviewed articles contributing to the field of cardiovascular health and pediatric cardiology, specifically exploring various aspects related to maternal health and fetal outcomes, including the impact of gestational diabetes and hypertension on cardiovascular development.
