Biography

Marij van Strien is an Assistant Professor at Radboud University, specializing in the history and philosophy of science, specifically physics. Her research focuses on the impact of quantum mechanics on philosophy in the twentieth century and the historical context of determinism and causality. She is interested in how rationality in science defines the boundaries of natural science. Marij studied the history and philosophy of science at Utrecht University and received her PhD in philosophy from Ghent University in 2014, where her dissertation examined determinism in nineteenth-century physics. Following this, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Science and Technology Studies at Bergische Universität Wuppertal, and has held visiting positions at the University of Pittsburgh, the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin, and the Institute Vienna Circle. In Nijmegen, she is a member of the Center for the History and Philosophy of Science and the Radboud Center for Natural Philosophy.
