Dr. Marijana Vujković

Biography

Dr. Marijana Vujković is an Assistant Professor at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. She holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science, an M.Sc in Epidemiology, and a PhD in Epidemiology, all from Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Her research program, funded by the NIH, aims to advance understanding of the genetics underlying obesity-induced diseases, enabling personalized disease risk assessment and intervention. Dr. Vujković's lab focuses on identifying and quantifying the role of actionable clinical factors that moderate genetic risk for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and its progression to cirrhosis and liver cancer. She has developed a scalable, genomics-informed pharmaco-epidemiologic research program to accelerate drug discovery efforts, particularly in the repurposing of existing medications for novel indications. Dr. Vujković has a strong track record of research productivity, evidenced by over 70 peer-reviewed publications, including first-author works in prestigious journals such as 'Nature Genetics' and senior authorship in 'Nature' as part of the T2D Global Genomics Initiative. She has also been involved with the Million Veteran Program and received the Early Career Investigator Award in 2019.
