Biography

Marilyn Albert is a Professor in the Solomon H. Snyder Department of Neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her research focuses on understanding cognitive brain changes associated with aging and characterizing common neurodegenerative disorders, particularly Alzheimer’s disease. She aims to improve early diagnosis and design clinical trials for effective treatments for patients. Her work leverages biomarkers derived from cerebrospinal fluid, magnetic resonance imaging, positron emission tomography, and genetics. Albert has demonstrated that a subset of measures, whether taken alone or in combination, can predict whether individuals with normal cognition are likely to progress to mild cognitive impairment or dementia. Additionally, she is actively involved in the development of new biomarkers to enhance the understanding of disease mechanisms and predictions. Her research also examines lifestyle factors that may reduce the risk of cognitive decline among older adults.
