Dr. Marilyn Oermann

Biography

Marilyn Haag Oermann is the Thelma M. Ingles Distinguished Professor at the Duke University School of Nursing. Her scholarship focuses on nursing education with an emphasis on studies of nursing literature and the current challenges posed by predatory publishing in nursing. Over her distinguished career, Dr. Oermann has authored or co-authored 36 books—each one having garnered national awards—as well as more than 235 articles in peer-reviewed journals, reflecting a wide array of research and publications. Her recent work investigates reporting guidelines for nursing research, emphasizing the critical minimum information required for manuscript reporting across various study types, including quality improvement projects. With a strong commitment to nursing education, she has also led significant research initiatives, such as optimizing individual Basic Life Support maintenance competence training. Dr. Oermann's endeavors reflect her dedication to advancing the field of nursing through both research and education.
