Hon Marilyn Warren AC KC served as the Chief Justice of Victoria from 2003 to 2017, making her the longest-serving state and federal Chief Justice in Australia. Prior to this role, she was a Judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria from 1998 to 2003, where she presided over the Commercial List and Corporations List (now part of the Commercial Court) with extensive experience in both trial and appellate jurisdictions, particularly in commercial cases. Currently, she serves as a domestic and international commercial arbitrator and is a member of Dawson Chambers and the Senior Arbitrator Group at the Victorian Bar. In academia, she holds the position of Vice Chancellor’s Professorial Fellow at Monash University, teaching commercial law and international arbitration in the Law Faculty's graduate programs. Marilyn Warren has been a member of the Victorian Bar since 1985 and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1997 after being admitted to practice in 1975. Throughout her career, she has held numerous significant roles, including that of the Lieutenant Governor of Victoria from 2006 to 2017, and has chaired various institutions including the Courts Council of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and the Judicial College of Victoria.
