Biography

Marin K. Levy is a Melvin Shimm Distinguished Professor at Duke University School of Law. Her primary academic interests focus on judicial administration, civil procedure, remedies, and federal courts. Levy's scholarship has been published in prestigious journals such as the Yale Law Journal, University of Chicago Law Review, University of Pennsylvania Law Review, Cornell Law Review, and California Law Review. She has contributed to significant legal discussions in various public outlets including the New York Washington Post and Atlantic. Notably, she co-authored the book 'Federal Standards Review: Appellate Court Review District Court Decisions Agency Actions (2nd ed.)' with Judge Harry T. Edwards and Linda Elliott. Levy has been a member of the Duke Law faculty since 2009 and received the Distinguished Teaching Award in 2017. She previously directed Duke's Program in Public Law and is now the Faculty Director of the Bolch Judicial Institute. An elected member of the American Law Institute, she has also testified before Congress on matters relating to the U.S. Supreme Court. Before joining Duke, Levy served as a law clerk for Judge José Cabranes on the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and was an associate at Jenner & Block LLP in Washington, D.C. Levy earned her J.D. from Yale Law School in 2007 and was the Editor-in-Chief of the Yale Law & Policy Review. She holds an M.Phil. in History, Philosophy, and Science Medicine from the University of Cambridge, obtained in 2004, and graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Ethics, Politics, and Economics from Yale College in 2003.
