Marina Iacovou has over 15 years of experience as a Nutritionist and is an Accredited Practising Dietitian. With an extensive background in clinical nutrition science, she has managed significant research projects, including over $1.5 million in industry funding for dietary therapy research in gastrointestinal conditions at the Department of Gastroenterology at Monash University. Beginning her career in academic roles, she served as a Teaching Associate in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Monash University from 2010 to 2016 during which she completed her PhD. Her doctoral research explored the pathogenesis of infantile colic and the dietary habits of breastfeeding mothers. Since 2012, she has been involved in numerous clinical trials aimed at dietary therapies and has presented at more than 35 national and international conferences, showcasing her work in the field. Marina has also played a significant role in organizing scientific meetings, including the Gastro-Diet conference in 2017 in Prato, Italy. Most recently, she led a multicentre dietary intervention study funded by the NHMRC Grant titled 'Shifting Weight using Intermittent Fasting for night shift workers' which ran from February 2019 to October 2020. Her research interest includes the role of food-derived bacteria in treating diseases, supported by her successful NHMRC New Ideas Grant.
