Dr. Marina Nistotskaya

Biography

Marina Nistotskaya is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Gothenburg and a researcher at the Quality of Government Institute. Her research primarily focuses on public bureaucracies, exploring the organizational and measurement aspects of bureaucratic structures and behavior across countries. She has contributed significantly to the understanding of state capacity, institutional sequencing, and the long-term effects of state capacity on tax compliance and revenue. Nistotskaya also examines the impact of New Public Management reforms on service quality in various sectors, including nursing homes, and has addressed significant issues in African politics, authoritarian regimes, and gender representation. With extensive teaching experience, she coordinates courses at the BA, MA, and PhD levels, and supervises numerous students in their academic pursuits. Her academic contributions have been published in esteemed journals and she remains an active voice in discussions about quality governance, state capacity, and public administration theory.
