Biography

Dr. Marinka Zitnik is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Harvard Medical School and an Associate Faculty member at the Kempner Institute for the Study of Natural Artificial Intelligence at Harvard University. With a keen focus on leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) for advancing biomedical research, her work aims to enhance scientific discovery and promote individualized diagnosis and treatment in medicine. Dr. Zitnik investigates the foundational aspects of AI to empower breakthroughs in therapeutic design and genomic medicine, ultimately striving to ensure that patients receive the right treatment at the right time. Her research includes developing AI models that fuse diverse data modalities, such as genetic codes and molecular datasets, to create powerful disease diagnostics and novel therapeutic approaches. Dr. Zitnik has founded the Therapeutics Data Commons and has been a leader in the International AI4Science initiative. She also organized a National Symposium on Drug Repurposing for Future Pandemics on behalf of the National Science Foundation.
