Biography

Professor Brito works at the interface of business, science, and engineering, with a background in engineering systems design. Between 2000 and 2005, he was a systems dynamics engineer at BAe Systems and Stirling Dynamics, where he developed dynamic simulation models for system designs, such as the A380 aircraft manual fuel transfer system and oil and gas hydraulic control systems. He completed his PhD at the University of Bristol focused on risk management of safety-critical systems assurance. In 2008, he joined the National Oceanography Centre as a research fellow, becoming a project manager for significant projects including the Marine Autonomous Systems Support Marine Observations (MASSMO) project. His research interests include risk analysis in complex systems and autonomous vehicles under extreme environments. He has led several research initiatives in risk management, contributing to projects with significant impact, and has published extensively in leading journals. He has been involved in PhD supervision and has played a pivotal role in enhancing the educational framework within his department at the University of Southampton.
