Biography

Mario Suva's research focuses on the biology of brain tumors, particularly diffuse high-grade gliomas in adults and children. He dissects cellular heterogeneity and plasticity to understand how they contribute to tumor properties. His studies utilize primary human samples and single-cell resolution to establish genetically and epigenetically relevant cellular models for patient tumors. Additionally, he models brain cancer cells that exploit plasticity to establish distinct epigenetic programs. Suva seeks to identify common programs that could offer novel therapeutic options for these challenging diseases. He leads large-scale efforts in single-cell transcriptional profiling of clinical gliomas in collaboration with the Broad Institute, extending single-cell genomics efforts to characterize the immune compartment of clinical gliomas at an unprecedented scale and resolution. Utilizing the knowledge gained about determinants of plasticity, he aims to develop novel, rational approaches to coordinately target multiple cellular states in glioblastoma.
