Graduated from the National Veterinary School of Lyon, France, in 2002, Marion Desmarchelier worked in mixed practice (small animals, equines, and dairy cattle) for several years. After an internship involving birds of prey at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Université de Montréal, she completed a zoological medicine internship. Following her return to France, she worked in a referral hospital with exotic and small animals while volunteering at a wildlife rehabilitation center. Desmarchelier undertook a residency in zoological medicine and a master's degree in clinical sciences focusing on pain in birds. She served as a clinical professor in wildlife, exotic, and zoo animal medicine at Atlantic Veterinary College from 2010 to 2014. After returning to Quebec, she combined her clinical work with a second residency in animal behavior. Desmarchelier is a diplomate of the American College of Zoological Medicine (2009), the European College of Zoological Medicine (Zoo Health Management) (2014), and the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists (2018). She is also an associate editor for the Journal of Zoo Wildlife Medicine and contributed to Fowler's Zoo Wild Animal Medicine.
